Back to it

So yesterday was my first day back to work after being out 12 weeks on maternity leave. It was just a half day, so not too bad as far as actually work. It also wasn't too bad on account of my having checked email regularly and being able to work from home this last month.

What was bad? Leaving my baby. Don't get me wrong, given the child care arrangement with friend Cindy, it could have been worse - leaving her with not one person in their home, but instead leaving her at the center with one adult and five other infants to care for. But, despite the fact that I know she will be well taken care of, it was still hard - strike that horrible! I of course cried the whole way to work. Here is my internal dialogue..."She'll be okay - Yes, but this is un-natural, I should be with my baby right now, not at work pumping into a machine!" Avery did do well. She actually took a bottle - about 3-4 ounces over the course of a few hours. Today is another half day....based on how it goes, we'll determine what's in store for the rest of the week. Oh, how I wish I could stay home or convince Aaron to stay home. I told Aaron that I think what I will miss most is the way that Avery smiles up at me when I go to get her out of her crib. She has the best smile! Okay, enough - I am starting to cry.

In other news...and about a week late - Kendall's 2 year check up went well. She is 29 pounds and 35 inches tall. She is starting to show some interest in potty training, which I think we'll hit hard this summer. She loves to sing. Anytime we are in the car she asks me to sing her a song. She loves to be outside. Everyday I have to tear her away from the bush near the back door with berries on it. She could stand there for hours picking berries. She loves her babies and baby sister. She is such a good big sister. Lately she has taken to asking to hold Avery's finger. She continues to love books. She could sit and read/be read to for hours. She is quite the drama queen when she wants to be. She loves mac and cheese - sometimes I think more than her momma. She has started to drink milk - a glass at dinner every day. She is beautiful and awesome! I can't wait to see what she will become and what she will make of her life.
