January Reading List

I am a little late (behind) but still determined. Just finished reading Desert Solitaire by Abbey. It was okay. Makes you appreciate wilderness and its place in society. I can relate to the fact that even if never presented with the opportunity to visit wilderness, it is important to society just the same. Not sure I could survivie what he did. Don't get me wrong, solitude has its place. In fact, never have I learned so much about my self than the year I spent living alone in Athens, OH. Time with your thoughts is important. Time to reflect is good. But, that much time, in that remote a place would be a little too much for me. Still it makes you appreciate Abbey's description of the desert and what 'tourism' has done to such important and out-of-the way places like Glen Canyon.

So the next book on the list is Crash (one that Aaron has read to his students). He actually brought home 3 for me to choose from. Not sure it will be crash, but I will report on whatever book I decide on.

A Saturday Hike

Yesterday we decided to visit Peachtree Rock (a local hiking trail) just off Hwy 6, incidentally about 5 minutes from Aaron's school. We didn't really know what to expect, but it ended up being a great little spot. As the link indicates this preserve is managed by the Nature Conservancy and is known for its rock formations and the midlands only waterfall. It was a really neat spot. Here are some pics...

Nope, this isn't white sand from a romantic beach, rather the white sand that makes up the South Carolina sand hills.

My nieces would have loved this tree. You really can't see it, but the bend in the tree set about 4 feet off the ground. Aaron helped to boost me up (after dropping me first...I have a nice scrape on my arm to proove it).

All in all it was a great day. We took the motorcycle and stopped at Sonic afterward for Strawberry lime aids. It was such a nice day to be outside.

Rhinoplasty and Dressers

I finally won...and Aaron let me purchase a bedroom dresser set for our bedroom. We purchased it off of Craig's list.

The tops are green, so I experimented with sanding and staining the night stand...not quite sure that I like it...think I should have sanded more. I'll probably end up painting the tops a dark color brown to match the room.

This weekend our friend Brooks came to visit and we went out for one of Aaron's co-workers birthday. The night began with beer pong and then ended at the bar dancing.

Aaron had a doctors appointment today (after months of Maeve's nagging) to see what's wrong with him. Despite the obvious - the diagnosis indicates a "severely" deviated septum. One look up his nose and the doctor exclaimed that he and Aaron were sure to be close friends. So, it is a cat scan next week with a nose job to follow. I told him he should go for a smaller version of the schnoz while they are at it - just kidding I love him just the way he is! Although they did offer. The Doctor actually said that this should yeild significant results right away. Maybe now we can both get a good nights sleep.

Old Fart

It's official, Aaron is an old fart...now 28 years old. We recently celebrated his bday. Here are some pics of us celebrating with friends.
And what was his favorite present - his iPod from his wonderful wife. That's right, we entered the 21st century and I purchased an iPod for Aaron's bday. And despite the fact that this was purchased over a week ago, he has yet to upload a single song to his iPod. So, what has he been doing? Uploading all his songs to iTunes, methodically...in alphabetical order.
