Home Sweet Home

So I finally did it.  I relented and let dad convince me to take my old doll house home so that the girls could play with it.  This doll house was one that I made with my dad as a young girl. It was one that came in a kit of parts you had to punch out, sand, and glue together.  Oh the memories I have in our basement in Scottville, MI of the HOURS spent sanding these pieces of wood that would ultimately make up this doll house. I am not sure who enjoyed it more and I know it taught me several things - not the least of which was what a perfectionist my dad was. But seriously it taught me to appreciate time spent on doing a job well, it taught me patience, it taught me perseverance, and it taught me the value of father-daughter time. It was a labor of love right down to the wallpapered rooms, door with tiny working hinges, an electrical system that once actually included a working fire place, kitchen stove, and chandelier. It has real siding, real shingles, curtain, and carpet/tile floors.  It did require a bit of fix up and it still isn't what it once was.  I honestly think dad had fun getting it ready to pass down to my girls and it certainly brought back memories for mom, dad, and I. Mom even remembers helping me ensure the wallpaper lined up.

Dad even went to a local hobby shop to get grass for the front 'yard.'

The girls have indeed had fun playing with it.  Not sure how long it will last or whether they too will have the same great memories of playing with it someday, but it's been fun.

These last two are just a couple of cute shots of the girls with the Ipad.  How weird to think as I write this that my childhood was spent building a dollhouse and my own girls is spend on an Ipad.  Weird how time changes things.  Anyway...I thought this captured a nice moment of the girls working together and sharing.  Some day I'll make them look at this and remember that at one point in time they did actually like each other.
